from the attached map, none of the utility poles and hence utility lines are within 200 feet
of the active or planned mine area.
11) With regard to our blasting at the quarry, there is a specific protocol in place for each
blast. This protocol involves the placement of seismographs at various locations in and
azound the quarry in order to measure any potential disturbance. Our experience through
the years indicates that after we are approximately 500 to 750 feet from the blast azea, no
disturbances are recorded.
With specific reference to the DMG's requirement of limiting blasting effects to a
maximum peak velocity of 1 inch per second or less or ground vibration and a maximum
allowable airblast of 129 dBL, Lafarge has no objection or difficulty agreeing to meet
this requirement. Lafazge has assumed that the point of measurement is the neazest
structure (defined as dwelling house, public building, school, church, commercial or
institutional building according to 30 CFR Sec. 816.67) to the permit boundary adjacent
to the blasting area.
I trust that your questions have been fully answered. However, should you have any other
questions and/or require any additional information, please do not hesitate contacting me.
Sincerely,
c~~~
John W.
