380 203.10 Presplitting. When presplitting is designated in the Contract, the top of the rock slope
381 will be established by the Engineer. The Contractor shall drill the bore holes along the slope line,
382 maintain the drill holes at the angle designated in the Contract, and ensure that all drill holes aze
383 in the same plane. The diameter, spacing, and loading of presplit holes :>hall result in a neat
384 break. The presplitting holes shall be drilled for the full depth of the ledge.
385
386 The initial presplitting of each geological formation shall be accomplished utilizing a 100 foot
387 test section. After drilling, loading, and shooting this test section, the material shall be removed
388 so the Engineer can determine if The diameter, spacing, and loading of the presplit holes are
389 adequate to give an acceptable backslope. If the results aze determined acceptable by the
390 Engineer, the presplitting may continue throughout the geological formation using those methods
391 and procedures. If the presplitting is determined unsatisfactory, the Contractor shall make
392 adjustments in the spacing, diameter, loading, or a combination thereof of the presplit holes
393 utilizing another test section.
394
395 Presplitting holes shall be loaded with explosives in accordance with the manufacturer's
396 recommendations. The cost of presplitting shall be included in the contract unit price for rock
397 excavation.
398
399 203.11 Blading, Blading shall consist of famishing motor graders of the specified horsepower
400 rating, with operators, for shaping roadway, shoulders, or other azeas as designated by the
401 Engineer.
402
403 When scarifying is specified the motor grader shall be equipped with an ittdependently operated
404 "V" type scarifier and attachments.
405
406 203.12 Dozing. Dozing shall consist of famishing crawler-type tractors of the specified
407 horsepower rating, complete with operators and bulldozer blades. Rippers, if specified, will not
408 be measured and paid for separately, but shall be included in the work.
409
410 203.13 Method of Measurement. Items paid for by volume will not tie remeasured but will
411 be the quantities designated in the Contract. Exceptions will be made when field changes are
412 ordered or when it is determined that there aze discrepancies on the plans im an amount of at least
413 plus or minus two percent of the plan quantity.
414
415 (a) Excavation. When payment is specified on a volume basis, all accepted excavation and
416 borrow will be measured in its original position by cross-sectioning the area excavated.
417 These measurements will include authorized excavation of rock, shale, muck, or other
418 unsuitable material. All accepted stripping will be measured in stockpiled locations by cross-
419 sectioning.
420
421 When the excavation conforms to the staked lines and grades, the original cross-sections and
422 the staked sections shall be used for the determination of volumes excavated. Volumes will
423 be computed from the cross-sections by the average end area or other acceptable method.
424
3-10
G \1011001000Z1AVieporl5\KP\Tacnniwl Speufiwtion5 Coc FeEruary 3, 2006

1

1

i

1
1
