<br /> <br />' Knight Piesold <br />CONSULTING <br />1 3.0 Construction Details <br /> 2 3.1 Section 200 -Earthwork <br /> 3 3.1.1 Section 201-Clearing and Grubbing <br /> 4 201.01 Description. This work consists of clearing, grubbing, removing, and disposing of <br /> 5 vegetation and debris within the limits of the right of way, easement areas, borrow pits, and other <br /> 6 areas shown in the Contract or required by the work. Vegetation and objects designated to <br /> 7 remain shall be preserved free from injury or defacement. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 201.02 Construction Requirements. The Engineer will designate all trees, shrubs, plants, <br />' ]0 and other objects to remain. Every object that is designated to remain and is damaged shall be <br /> I 1 repaired or replaced as directed, at the Contractor's expense. Clearing and grubbing shall extend <br /> 12 to the toe of fill or the top of cut slopes, unless otherwise designated. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 All surface objects, trees, stumps, roots, and other protruding obstructions not designated to <br /> 15 remain shall be cleared and grubbed, including mowing, as required. Undisturbed stumps, roots, <br />' 16 and nonperishable solid objects located 2 feet or more below subgrade or embankment slope may <br /> 17 remain in place. In areas to be rounded at the tops of backslopes, stumps shall be removed to at <br />' 18 least 2 feet below the surface of the final slope line. <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Except in areas to be excavated, all holes resulting from the removal of obstructions shall be <br />' 21 backfilled with suitable material and compacted in accordance with subsection 203.06. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Burning of perishable material will not be permitted without the written approval of the <br /> 24 Engineer. If permitted, perishable material shall be burned under the constant care of the <br /> 25 Contractor, at times and in a manner that will not endanger the surrounding vegetation, adjacent <br /> 26 property, or objects designated to remain. Burning shall be done in accordance with applicable <br /> 27 laws and ordinances. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 No material or debris shall be disposed of within the project limits without the written <br />' 30 permission of the Engineer. Material or debris that is disposed of within the project limits shall <br /> 31 be buried to a depth of at least 2 feet and the surface shall be reshaped to match the adjacent <br /> 32 ground line. The Contractor shall make all arrangements to obtain written permission from <br />' 33 property owners for disposal locations outside the limits and view of the project. Copies of this <br /> 34 written agreement shall be furnished to the Engineer before the disposal area is used. <br /> 3S <br /> 36 All cleazed merchantable timber shall be removed from the project and shall become the property <br /> 37 of the Contractor. <br /> 38 <br /> 39 Branches on trees or shrubs shall be removed as directed. Branches of trees extending over the <br /> 40 roadbed shall be trimmed to give a cleaz height of 20 feet above the roadbed surface. All <br /> 41 trimming shall be done in accordance with good tree surgery practices. The Contractor shall <br />' 42 scalp the areas within the excavation or embankment grading limits. Mowed sod need not be <br /> 43 removed where the embankment to be constructed is 4 feet or more in height.
