8) The Mining Plan states that "The size of the area to be worked at any one time is estimated to be'
18.9 acres." Is this a commitment to 19 acres maximum disturbance?
9) In the Reclamation Plan, the text reads that "6 inches of topsoil and overburden will be used on
3:1 slopes." Please commit to a range of pure topsoil for the slopes.
10) Please include a Weed Control Plan within the Reclamation Plan.
11) The contour lines on the Reclamation Map should reflect atie-in with the existing permitted site.
Please address how proposed contours will blend into the existing topography of the pit better.
12) During the inspection of the site in January, 2002 the issue of the one power line feeding the
house within the permitted azea was briefly discussed. In Exhibit S, it states that mining will not affect
any utilities. Please clarify what Parkerson's plans to do about the power line. Also, supply
documentation from the power company that these efforts are acceptable.
It appears that azeas in the current A and B mining azeas can be reclaimed. The operator should commit
to doing as much as possible to areas not being utilized. Highwalls along the south edge of B in
particulaz might be able to utilize excess overburden. This would reduce the overall bond requirements.
Please find attached a copy of the Division's PolicXon Hazardous Materials Spills at Mine Sites. The
Minerals Supervisor has asked staff to pass on this information to all operators. Please commit within
the Mining Plan to reporting any spills of materials classified as being a "reportable quantity" to any
local, state and federal agency to the Division as well.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Minerals and Geology, Grand
Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501, telephone no.
970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
~6~
G.
