This timeframe gctrcrally begins lxtween the months of mid
October through mid Abvember and cads between the momhs of mid March tluotrgh mid
April of each year. Low flow volumes average between 200-300 C.S.F..
In close proximity to cross scaion dl t (attached and drown on overview ar~d
profile maps), as access road will be casstrrxted across the Animas River. This mad will
provide access and transportation for the material from the lake area on the east side of
the fiver to the existing procxssing site on the west side of the river- The road will be
coostrtrcted in late felt during the low flow period mentioned above. Removal will take
place hefore any signifitum increase in flow, which normally occurs mid March through
mid April.
Construction of this road will begin on the east side of the river and proceed au~ct.
Native, riverdeposited materia! from the proposed lake area will be placKd in Ilse river
concstrzeotly with a series of large culvert pipes (refcrrnccd in cross-section plan map), so
as not to restrict the flow of ware. Placement of the pipes and then the gravel will be
done from an above water location (approxiraetcly finished road grader m order to
minimize any chazutel disturbance. Road taatrriat will be plied oo top of the pipes and
or the road and they graded; never dumped wholly or directly itt stream. Upon
completing construction, the road wilt be finish graded for hauling material. The fmishr'd
mad grade twmpaction shall be acwmplished by mobile egaipmrnt traveling oa the
surface.
Removal of the road tnateria! will begin on the east side and proceed west. The pil
run material used to txrver the pipes will be excavated with a track hoe and loaded iron
dump truck end hauled to the processing size on the west side. With culvert pipes ~w
exposed, they will be IiPoed and transported back ro the east side for the folh7wirtg season
inslallatioa
In reach of the Dalton Pit, the Animas River sediments race comprised of
approximately three percent by weight of materials that are stnaller than a 200 mesh
sieve, with essentially none of the material in the clay size. From this it follows that a
very smatl amount of trmterial is ever available to prodtrce sediment pollution.
TDTLiL P.01
