Topsoil will be stripped to a depth of at least 12" and will be stockpiled around the perimeter of the pit.
Topsoil will be seeded with native grass species to help preserve the soil's viability and to protect it from
wind and water erosion. Grass, shrubs, and small trees will be stripped and incorporated into the topsoil
piles of will be stockpiled separately for later use as a mulch.
The pit area receives approximately 11' -14' of precipitation per yeaz. Surface water is generally not
present in the permit area. The mining operation will not intersect any sources of goundwater. During
operations, the pit will be termed with material piles or topsoil piles to contain any overland flow from
stone events.
The mine life is approximately ten to fifteen (10-15) years. No mining will occur from November 15 to
April I S to avoid conflict with wildlife on their wintering areas. Due to the small staging area and pit area
there will be limited sequential reclamation during operations. As mining progresses to the south, the
staging area will also shift toward the south. Reclamation work will begin at the north end of the project
area and will progress toward the south as mining progresses and as space allows.
Mining equipment will consist of two crushing units, one pre crushing jaw crusher and one final cone
crushing unit, one front end loader, one crawler tractor and three support van trailers. Crushed materials
will be stockpiled at the northwest end of the pit. Typically gravel hauling from pit will be done with a
fleet of 5 belly dumps, hauling from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Monday thru Friday. Most years will see a
two week steady haul per season with occasional hauling during summer months for general maintenance
A steel gate with warning signs will be placed at the entranced to the pit to restrict access to unauthorized
personnel. The pit will be patrolled on regulaz bases to inspect for damage and to remove litter and illegal
dumping. All noxious weeds will be controlled by Grand County through an authorization with the BLM.
No inoperable equipment or equipment not related to the mining operation will be stored at the site.
Grand County is submitting the above amended Mining Plan For your comments and review. No change
in mining operations will be implemented without the approval of both the BLM and the Division of
Mineral and Geology. We await your decision.
Sincerely,
Billy L./Clark, Assistant Superintendent
