`J
NALCO 88Td is a high molecular weight liquid flocculent designed /or
mineral processing selling and filtration operations.
/ts sing/e-component, liquid form provides the following advantages over
dry polymers.
• Dissolves immediately
• Eliminates "fish-eyes" that occur with undissolved dry product
• Arrmits safe end easy dust-fiee handling
• Allows automation of make-up systems
NALCO 8873 provides maximum performance in systems having a pH
greater than 6.
PRINCIPAL U8E8
NALCO 8873 was developed to enable rapid solution
preparation and to provide maximum activity in mineral
processing operations where the pH of the water is
greater than 6.0. Typical processes are:
• Coal
• Sand and gravel
• Miscellaneous mineral processing operations
NALCO 8673 offers the following benefits in these
mining processes:
• Clarification of recycle water
• Thickening and settling of refuse slimes
• Refuse slimes filtration
• Mineral concentrate thickening and fihretion
GENERAL DE8CRIPTION
Odor .............. ............Slight organic
Color .............. ..................Cream
Form .............. ...Single component liquid
Charge in Solution .. ........Moderately anionic
Specific Gravity ..... ...............1.02-1.04
Density ............ ...........8.5-8.71b/gal
pH (1 °/a Solution) ... .................7.4-7.6
DOSAGE
Dosage requirements vary depending upon overall
effects desired and total percent solids in the slurry.
Typical ranges for mineral applications are:
Thin slurry thickening and clarification ....0.5-10 ppm
Heavy slurry filtration .....0.005-5 lb/ton of dry solids
NALCO CHEMICAL COMPANY
MINING 4N0 MINlR4l Pq OCHBBINL) CMlMICPI•
2901 BU TT ERFIEL^ ROgO "I OLK 9ROO K. A
centrrfugal pump may be used to transfer solutions of
8873 from one tnnk to another. A positive displacement
pump is strongly recommended for metering and
feeding solutions of 8673. Recirculation should be
avoided.
The stock solution should be metered into a mixing tee
and water tine for continuous dilution to 0.1 % or less
upstream from the point of addition. Individual process
applications may, require greater dilution to optimize
product performance. Feed the diluted 8873 in a manner
that provides maximum distribution to the slurry solids
and minimizes shear. This is best accomplished with a
distribution header. In addition multiple feed points can
increase the polymer's effectiveness.
Carbon steel tanks and pumps may be used for
solutions of 8873. Galvanized metals and natural or
synthetic rubbers should be avoided. Teflon or other
inert materials should be used for gaskets and pump
seals.
SNIPPING
NALCO 8873 is shipped in 55-gallon, non-returnable,
lined steel drums containing approximately 470 pounds
net and 5-gallon pails of 43 pounds net. It is also
available in bulk quantities.
(Continued on Reverse Side)
8873
