reaches of the mine site to the lower staging azea where Taylor Gulch drops away from
the disturbed land of the mining area. The berm will be app. 4 feet high, 4-6 feet across
the flattened top, and side slopes of no greater than 2:1, H:V. The berm will be capped
with no less than 6 inches of topsoil and planted according to site seed mix and rate
established in the reclamation plan portion of this document. The berm will help to
insure separation of Taylor Gulch drainage from mine site drainage and will remain as a
permanent feature after final mine reclamation activities are completed.
Road ditches within the active mining azea will be constructed as needed to divert surface
flows from within the active mining azea, including ramps, roadways, and stockpile azeas
into the lower pit azea. These road temporary ditches will likely be constructed as "v"
shaped ditches along roadway shoulders and broad swaies across flatter stockpile azeas
just deep enough to insure proper drainage of the azea while allowing for equipment
crossing.
2005 Environmental Correction Work Plan
By the end of the 2005 field season, the isolation of Taylor Gulch drainage from the mine
site will have been completed. Mine operations during the past several yeazs had
intercepted drainage patterns from Taylor Gulch, resulting in sedimentation deposition in
Taylor Gulch from the lower staging azea road crossing of CR 288 approximately 500
feet down gradient to the grated (Colorado Abandoned Mine Program) underground adit
located on the east side of Taylor Gulch just below the lower waste dump (see map Ca).
These carbonate sediments were excavated from the channel bottom and hauled back to
the mine site for grading of the lower staging floor azea. Excavation was performed
down to original soil layer exposure, although a minor amount of cazbonate fines remains
in the drainage. The azea will be seeded and mulched in late 2005 or eazly 2006 field
season. Taylor Gulch drainage was reinforced in two locations where mine operations
had intersected the drainage channel via excavation and rip-rap placement to facilitate un-
restricted flow of Taylor Gulch watershed. The trapezoid channel configuration and rip-
rap placement is shown on the attached drawing. The construction of a waste rock berm
directly east and parallel to Taylor Gulch will help to insure that future watershed flow
will move un-impeded in Taylor Gulch and will not mix with mine site drainage.
Drainage systems within the mining azea will all flow wwazds the lower pit azea, without
exception. Topsoil materials incurred during mining and development will be placed in
designated topsoil stockpile azeas as located on map Cc and seeded for stabilization until
food placement. A sediment fence was installed during the 2005 field season located
along the base of the lower waste rock dump. This sediment control structure failed
during a storm event in late September, 2005, due to improper grading of the lower
staging area directly above the waste rock dump. The sediment fence system and grading
deficiencies will be corrected before the end of the 2005 field season.
10
