RECEIVED
CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM COMPANY DEC 13
HENDERSON MINE AND MILL 1~2
Olrisioa a} Mlrtarals and 6ealrty~
Permit Revision in Response to Financial Warranty Increase
Technical Revision #12 to Permit M-77-342
RESPONSE TO DMG REVIEW OF TR-12 DATED OCTOBER 2, 2002
The following response to DMG comments on TR-12 in a letter dated October 2, 2002 is
presented on a numerical basis parallel to DMG's numerical comments.
1. Reduction of Bnffer Area Disturbance: Henderson concurs. DMG will be contacted
at least 30 days prior to any anticipated disturbance of the 318 acre buffer area to facilitate
increases in the Financial Warranty (FW) amount.
2. Structural Demolition - On Site Disposal: The Henderson Mine and Mill is a
modem facility constructed entirely of concrete components, steel, and other metals. Unlike the
Climax Mine, timber and wood was not used for construction. Therefore, wood products consist
of such things as wooden doors, paneling in some azeas, non-recycled pallets, rail ties, etc.
Henderson polled its engineering and operations staff regarding the amount of wood products
that might remain at the time of a total closure. These personnel believe that significantly less
than 1 percent of all demolition materials would require off-site landfilling. Additionally,
practical experience from demolition of the crusher corroborates this amount. Given this
information, and lacking building by building inventories (that would change in time at any rate),
Hendetson believes Utat applying a cost for hauling and landfilling 1 percent of the total mine and
mill demolition volume is reasonable.
3. Disposal Locations: Attached is a detailed map showing the locatons of the two
proposed disposal locations at the mill site. Also attached are photographs of these two sites for
purposes of perspective. Note that both sites drain directly to the tailings impoundment. The
presently active small site in Area 18 is directly adjacent to the tailings impoundment, while the
larger site in Area 5 is north at the head of a direct drainage to the tailings impoundment.
Henderson concurs with DMG and will cover each disposal site with a minimum of three (3) feet
of cover material. The large Area 5 site will be wmmissioned upon a complete closure scenario
for the mill and wilt utilize the fill material directly adjacent and above the site. Presently, this
