However, <br />there are some engineering and enviroamerrtal concerns that need to be addressed for the NFSR228 road. A Eery of the existing <br />drainage jeaturer are na longer filly operable (crushed cutvrrts), «nd could stand to he replaced (please see Wrap along with <br />location photos). br addition to etrlvert replacement, the Forest Servlee recommends that the permittee install a fair amount rip- <br />rap armoring at the intake end ofall ofthe culverts within the NFSR228 rood prism located an National Forest System (NFS) <br />land. Furthermore, various sections of the NFSR228 road could benefrt from having the road reshaped or "in-sloped" so that <br />much of the stornwnter surface runoJfduring precipitation events flows from the roar! back to the cut slope, instead oJ'spilling <br />into Taylor Gulch. Please contact the Salida Ranger District oJfrce prior to implementing this recommended work. <br />B. MAINTENANCE OF VEGE'CATION TREE PLANTING AND REMOVAL OF llANGEROUS TREES AND/OR <br />OTHER UNSAFE CONDITIONS NEEDED (Y/N): Aside from nearby trees and shrubs grnduagy becoming buried by eroded <br />road base material, no vegetation maintenance eoncen+s (e.g. tree printing or tree removal} were observed for die inm+ediatc NFS <br />lands surrounding the NFSR228 road at this time. <br />C. MAINTENANCE OF FACILITIES: As stated above, the NFSR228 rood appeared to be irr u good state ofoperrrtion. Orly <br />minor maintenance or replacement of dte existing drainage features/culverts is recommended at this time. The Forest Service <br />also recommends that the propmrent install a firir amount ofrip-rap armoring n! the intake end ofall of the culverts within the <br />NFSR228 roar! prism located orr Natiorur( Forest Svs7cm (NFS) land. <br />D. SIGNING ADEQUATE f Y/N): The Forest Service recommends that Colorado Marble purchase some Depurnrtent Of <br />Transportation (DOT) approved vehicle warring rood signs (at least 2 signs), which display a message to motorists that heavy <br />equipnteat or Jtatrl !rucks Wray be encountered orr [he road. Foxes[ Service Engineers will work with Colorado Marble to+carris <br />the proper placement and inslnllatirnt of the vehicle warning signs. <br />E. REMOVAL OF GARBAGE AND/OR TRASH NEEDED (YAY): No significant amount ofdiscarded trash or debris was <br />observer) upon inspection of the roadway. In the future, mry materials that are no longer needed (e.g. discarded solid waste, <br />trash, constrnrctiat materials, inoperable culverts) which were used incidental to the upkeep and umintennnce of the NFSR228 <br />road roust be removed from National Forest System landr. <br />F.
