~,~ .. ,
Mr. James Dillie
- 3 -
An article in the New England Journal of Medicine stated in part:
April 12, 2003
"A study shows that in large cities, every 1 per-
cent increase in the concentration of a type
of pollution known as fine particulate matter
results, on average, on one MORE DEATH PER DAY."
Of course, that study referred to large cities; however, pollution is pollution
whether in a large city or a small city. It is not known what type of toxin
Rocky Mountain's mining operation will produce but whatever pollution it re-
leases, it is hazardous to the health.
GRANTING A LIFE OF THE MINE type of permit:
a. is not a one-or-two-day operation. The proposed permit would
allow an operation for the Life of the Mine which could be in
operation for 50 years and more, releasing whatever TOXINS
mining gravel would produce daily;
b. in any mining operation, it's not what you see, but what you
don't see that is of great concern;
c. when the wind blows, this pollution would affect the entire
area as the wind blows NORTH - SOUTH - EAST and WEST: and
would spread the pollution all over,
Also, sometime ago when we checked our property with the surveyer, we noted:
1. there were homes and people living in that area;
2. that area has a beautiful view;
3. would be a great opportunity and an ideal location to start
a housing division;
4, would be an ideal area for country living; and,
If Rocky Dountain is granted a Life of the Mine permit, or any type of permit for
mining, that, undoubedly would never happen.
We hope these concerns and objections are taken into consideration; and that
Rocky Mountain is not granted a permit for that purpose. However, we realize
the final decision rests with the Board; and we would also like to know, if the
permit is granted, would we still have access to our property or would they cut
us off?
Thank you.
Very truly ours,
.~ =(~
June A.
