Mr. James Dillie
April 12, 2003
- 2 -
Sometime ago, we had this property surveyed and stakes were laid out so that we
knew the location of it. We intended to fence it in; however, due to circum-
stances beyond our control, we~were unable to accomplish this. We felt, since it
was grazing land, we did not object if cattle grazed.
This property was owned by our grandfather in the late 1800's and, when he passed
away in 1920, it passed on to our grandmother. When she passed away in 1938, my
mother took over handling this matter; and, I recall, she was sent a letter asking
if she would allow cattle to graze on it and she said it would be all right; so it
is possible cattle have been grazing on it for some time. When my mother passed
away, she wished this property to stay in the family.
We have no record of a written notice from the applicant; however, we are enclosing
a copy of the Public Notice, their letter dated February 25, 2003 and the envelope
which shows it was mailed on March 11, 2003.
We do not wish to withdraw our objections as, seemingly, Rocky Mountain plans to
build their mining operation adjoining our property; and I don't think anyone
would approve having that type of.operation as their neighbor.
We again reiterate our concerns and objections as, by granting a Life of the Mine
permit to Rocky Mountain, it would:
1. spoil any potentials of enhancement of that area;
2. ruin the scenic view and affect .the value of properties in that area;
3. would create much NOISE, HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC, VISUAL IMPACTS, and
MUCH DUST - creating an unhealthy atmosphere.
4. UPSET any plans the family may have for their property as we
do not want a mining company fora neighbor.
Have the residents of Canon City and Florence been notified that a Life of the Mine
operation is being considered in that area; and were they made aware of the ensuing
danger that is usually imminent from that type of operation creating pollution
which would have an._affect on their`healtB?
Perhaps Rocky Mountain equates the proposed mining operation as creating jobs;
however, automation has taken over the majority of operations and it may also be
in the case of Rocky Mountain; therefore, the employment would be minimum but the
pollution would be great,; and would this type of operation be worth what it would
do to the safety and health of the people both in Canon City and Florence?
Many Senior Citizens move to Canon City and Florence because of the clean air; and
they contribute much to the economy of those cities; however, if Rocky Mountain is
granted the permit they request, it is very likely the Senior Citizens who moved
to Canon City and Florence to spend their retirement years there, may; very likely
move out.
