Geotechnical Data Technical Memorandum
Hazeltine -Road Runners Rest II Gravel Pit Dining Project
December 2000
1.0 INTRODUCTION
1.1 Purpose and Objective
The purpose of this Geotechnical Data Technical Memorandum is to present data collected from
our geotechnical field investigation and laboratory testing performed at the Hazeltine, Road
Runners Rest II, and Howe-Haller Gravel Pits, Adams County, Colorado. Analyses and
interpretation of the data collected are provided in the Design Report.
The objectives of the geotechnical work were to collect site-specific geotechnical and
groundwater information needed to evaluate alternative gravel pit lining systems and perform
final design of a liner system.
1.2 Scope of Work
GEI Consultants, Inc. (GEI) performed the following for the geotechnical data collection phase
of work:
1. Participated in a project start-up meeting with Denver Water and South Adams
County Water and Sanitation District (Client) to define the project design and
operating criteria for the Project.
' 2. Participated in a meeting with the Client and Colorado Office of the State
Engineer (SEO) to establish the acceptable leakage criteria at the Hazeltine and
~ Road Runners Rest II (Hazeltine/Road Runners Rest II) Gravel Pits.
3. Performed a literature search and reviewed available documents on local geology,
mining, permitted wells and septic systems, and ground water.
4. Drilled and logged 20 subsurface exploration borings and performed in situ field-
tests in the borings. Nineteen of the borings were drilled around the perimeter of
the Hazeltine and Road Runners Rest II Pits and one boring was drilled on the
berm between these two pits.
5. Installed dual level open standpipe piezometers in 7 of the completed borings.
6. Prepared permits and monitoring well installation reports for submittal to the
SEO.
na"rg°°--"""T" 1_I ~ GEI Consultants, Inc.
