MINING PLAN
Stockpile Protective Seed Mixture
When soil or overburden stockpiles are seeded they will be planted with the following
mixture. This mixture is based on a broadcast seeding of the stockpile. In the event the stockpile is
drill seeded (not recommended for 3:1 or steeper slopes due to the hazard of operating equipment on
steep slopes) then the seeding rate will be divided in half.
Seed Mix for Stockpile Protection
(Broadcast seed rate -divide by 2 if drilled)
Species Pounds PLS/acre Live Seeds per sq ft
Blue Grama 2 32
Western Wheatgrass 5 14.5
Streambank Wheatgrass 4 14.5
Totals 11 61
1. Time of seeding: Whenever it is determined that seeding is necessary as dictated by
the expected duration of stockpiling.
2. Post seeding treatment: If broadcast, drag the surface to help bury the seed unless
the surface is very loose and has lots of crevices at the time of seeding.
3. Post planting management: Follow weed control requirements for stockpiles, but
avoid using herbicides that would kill the grasses in the protective seeding (i.e. do not
use RoundUp® or other generalized herbicides that kill everything).
Coal Creek Sand Resource Amendment 3 (2005) - M-1988-044 Exhibit D Page 35
