GRAND JUNCTION
LINCOLN DeVORE, Inc.
GEGTECFINICAL ENGINEERS - GEOI,GGISTS
]441 Motor St. TEL: (970) 242-8968
Grand )unction, CO 81505 FAX: (970) 242-1561
May 4, 2001
Gary Rinderle Construction
P.O. Box 1380
Clifton, Colorado 81520
Re: GraveUAggegate Resources,
High Desert AFT Subdivision, East Orchard Mesa, Palisade, CO
Dear Mr. RindOrle,
At the request of Mr. Bob Engleke, the representative of Rinderle Construction, personnel of Grand Junction
Lincoln DeVore have conducted on-site geologic mapping of the above referenced site. The purpose of this
mapping, in part, was to determine the approximate extent of the general aggregate gravel resources on this
site. Following are otu findings.
Tract Location and Description: The tract lies in the Southwest Quarter of the Southwest
Quarter of Section 17, Township 1 S, Range 2E a,ld a portion of the Southeast Quarter of the Southeast
Quarter of Section 18, Township 1 S, Range 2E of the Ute Principal Meridian, Mesa County, Colorado. The
tract is partially divided by 35 Road and is bounded on the North by D-1/4 Road, is bounded on the South
and East by a tributary of Sink Creek. The D Road extension is slightly south of the tract boundary. The
downtown business district of unincorporated Clifton is approximately 2-I/2 miles Northwest of this tract.
The tract contains approximately 50.5 acres.
The topography of the general area is quite variable, ranging from relatively flat `uplands in the south and
east, to moderate to steep slopes along the Sink Creek Gully and associated tributary gullies, to gently rolling
slopes in the Noah. Jusi north of the tract, the gently rolling land slopes towazd the north and is irrigated
crop land and orchards. The tract is partially an anciel:l terrace of the Colorado River.
The tract is in an arid to semi-arid endvonment and erosion is sporadic, oftentimes localized. The tract has
an elevation of approximately 4710 to 4920 feet above sea level, using the U.S.G.S. 7-I/2 minute mapping
of the Clifton quadrangle.
Site Geoloev: Much of the site is covered with unconsolidated alluvial soils, believed to be
'h to possibly 40 fee[ thick. A review of Grand Junction Lincoln DeVore's records indicates no exploration
borings of our record are within 500 to 1000 feet of this proposed subdivision. A limited gravel survey was
conducted on a site across Sink Creek, to the west of this site.
As part of this current project, I 1 exploration pits were placed across the north, northwest portion of the
tract, Lots 1 - 9. Coarse grained gravel and cobbles of the Ancient Colorado River deposit were encountered
in some of the shallow and deeper holes. These coarse grained gravels and cobbles were found to be I to
about 20 feet thick. The surface exposures in this area indicate the Mancos Shale is the bedrock.
The fine grained surface soils on portions of this site consist of a series of silty clay and clayey silt soils
