BLM East Gravel Pit
Exhibit H
Wildlife Information
WILDLIFE, TERRESTRIAL This proposed mining operation would occur in an area inhabited by a
vazie[y of wildlife including Rocky Mountain elk, mule deer, pronghorn, golden eagles, coyotes, badgers,
and a vaziety of small mammals and songbirds. These species depend on [he sagebrush ecosystem during
various seasons of the year. This proposed operation will eliminate several acres of sagebrush habitat and
displace wildlife from [he site for a period of development, however sufficient habitat exists adjacent to the
proposed site to support the wildlife displaced by the gravel pi[ operation.
THREATENED AND ENDANGERED The project area is located in habitat occupied by Greater sage
grouse. The Sensitive Species designation does not provide legal protection for sage-grouse. The pit is
located in habitat identified as winter habitat for sage-grouse however either this operation or would not
eliminate enough vegetation to adversely impact sage-grouse during the time in which sand and gravel are
processed on this site.
Mitigation shall include practices, which would benefit sage-grouse winter habitat production such as the
use of vegetative species, including big sagebrush, which benefit sage grouse.
