BLM East Gravel Pit
Exhibit E
Reclamation Plan
As the BLM East Gravel Pit is located on BLM lands, reclamation will be in accordance with
recommendations and stipulations as set forth by BLM personnel. Pre-mined land use in the azea of the
BLM East Gravel Pit was dry land grazing, and it is the intent that the affected areas be reclaimed for dry
land grazing.
Reclamation work will begin by reshaping and recontouring the pit azea. This work will be accomplished
with a dozer and/or scraper and will leave the area as natural appearing mesa. Side slopes of the reclaimed
pit will not exceed a slope of 3 or 4:1 horizontal or vertical. The existing access road into the pit azea from
County road 12D will be removed and reclaimed This existing road could continue to be utilized as access
to the pit area for dispersed undeveloped recreational activity. The access road could be closed until
vegetation is re-established on the site.
At [he close of mining operations, the operator shall blade the perimeter berm to recon[our the mesa top to
blend with the surrounding topography
During final reclamation, the "eggshell" edge of the pit will be bladed and spread over the mesa top. Both
the formerly unrestored access road (approx. 800 feet long), and the existing access road will be reclaimed
by re-contouring of the cuts and fills, and re-seeding. The old access road will be reclaimed within the first
5 years of the new permit issuance, and the existing access road will be reclaimed during final reclamation
work. Any stockpiled overburden will be spread over the entire reclaimed pit area using a dozer and/or
scraper. Stockpiled topsoil will then be evenly spread over the recontoured pi[ area to a depth of 6 inches
in the preparation of a uniform seedbed; if topsoil quantities are inadequate at the time of reclamation, the
operator will import sufficient quantities to ensure the minimum depth is provided.
Reseeding and planting will be done at the time of year, in a manner, and with species, which the BLM
considers offers the best chance of successful revegetation. If determined necessary, the reseeded areas
will be mulched with wild hay mechanically crimped to anchor against wind.
At the time of the pit reclamation, Jackson County will contact personnel from the local North Park Soil
Conservation District to perform soil tests to determine if fertilizer will be necessary for successful
revegetation.
At the close of mining operations, the operator shall blade the perimeter berm to recontour the mesa top.
Prior to respreading the topsoil, a gravel "lens" of at least 12 inches shall be spread on the disturbed site.
The access road shall be recontoured to blend with the original contour of [he hill, and revegetatted using
the approved seed mix.
