lime Wear protective clothing and gloves
Wear an approved dust respirator.
Sodium cyanide Wear protective clothing and gloves
Sodium hydroxide Wear protective clothing and gloves
Sulfuric Acid Wear eye protection.
Stop and/or contain the spill.
Shovel into approved containers.
Stop and/or contain the spill. Monitor
hydrogen cyanide gas. Add small amount of
sodium hydroxide, if necessary, to keep
the pH of sodium cyanide around 12 and
minimize gas formation. Decontaminate
using hydrogen peroxide, hypo chlorite,
or other neutralizing agent available
on site. Pump or divert to proper
storage area.
Stop and/or contain the spill. Pump or
divert to proper storage area.
Hydrochloric acid Wear protective clothing and gloves. Stop and/or contain the spill. Do not mix
Wear eye protection. with liquid containing sodium cyanide.
Neutralize acid using lime. Pump or divert
to proper storage area.
Note: Any spills in the mill will be completely contained and collected within the mill facilities
