EXHIBIT E RECLAMATION PLAN
The Haxtun Soil Conservation District has given us their recommendations for
reclamation of the mine site after extraction of gravel is complete. We will do as they
recommended.
Top soil to be replaced at a six inch depth will be stockpiled away from the flow
of water and reseeded to Lincoln Smooth Brome at the rate of 13 pounds per acre with
a nurse crop of 5 to 10 pounds of oats per acre while the mining is taking place. This
should reduce the chance of wind blowing the topsoil from the piles.
As increments of 3 acres are completed having the gravel extracted ,
reclaiming will begin. The banks which have been disturbed will be sloped to a
maximum of 3:1 slope. Overburden and dirty gravel will be used 'rf needed to
acxommodate this. After scarifying the graded slopes, six inches of topsoil will be
spread over the disturbed area. A cover crop of hybrid forage sorghum will be seeded
before July 1 at at the rate recommended by SCD. Grass seeding will be done
between November 1 and May 1 when there is at least 8" to 12" of stubble to seed
grass into. The creek channel will not be seeded, as run off would wash away any
vegetation which might try to become established.
Reclamation will first be done at the north bank on the east end of the affected
area. See map which indicates a 2.9 area staked off by posts, which will be mined
first. We anticipate this extraction to take approximately 2 years, depending on our
demand for gravel. Increased business could accelerate this time table.
Most of the south bank will not be disturbed, as the gravel deposits mostly seem
to be to the north. The property owner, who is 92 years old and had the property since
before the 20's, says that that creek bed used to be very wide. The flow of the creek
has moved to the south bank, away from the normal creek bed channel as gravel has
been deposited to the north. After reclamation the flow should be returned more
closely to the original position.
If any of the banks are disturbed when channeling the water, they will also be
sloped in the same increments and reclaimed. As the mining advances to the west In
the creek bed, the sides wilt be reclaimed at 3 acre increments. The channel will
continue to be directed to flow away from exposed gravel deposits as needed until
reclamation is completed . All disturbed banks will be sloped to the creek bed.
The roads, including areas of truck traffic within the permitted area, will have
any gravel base added removed and the ground will be scarified. Topsoil, as needed
up to 6 inches, will be spread over the road area and reseeded according to SCD
recommendations mentioned above.
EXHIBIT E RECLAMATION PLAN
14
