Apri19, 2002
Page 4
a) Evaporation - 12.8 acre-feet per year
b) Mining (dust control, retained in product, reclamation) - 16.7 acre-feet
per year
c) Reclamation -included within mining amount
2) The source of the water for the above uses will be a well drilled in the northwest
portion of the property. Replacement water for the well will come from leases
with Consolidated Mutual Water Company and the City of Greeley.
12) As of the date of this letter, Lafarge has been in the process of monitoring the
groundwater levels in a total of 6 wells. Four of these wells are located along the
eastern edge of our property; one well is south of the planned operation (on Mr.
Robert Cutler's property); and one well is on southwestern side of the property (Mr.
Ron Lindgren's property). In addition, Lafarge has committed to begin monitoring a
well located on Mr. Kenneth Bromley's property to the north of the planned
operation and to drill an additional well on the east side of Old Brighton Road.
a) If necessary, we can install a "french-drain" system up gradient of the slurry
wall approximately one foot above the highest level of the water table level as
determined by our monitoring data. This system will automatically direct any
mounded water around the property and back into the natural flow toward the
South Platte River. This pro-active system will ensure that the groundwater
table doesn't "mound" in any appreciable manner and cause damage to any of
the surrounding structures and/or neighbors.
b) A revised Exhibit D -Mining Plan Map is attached and contains the locations
of all of the monitoring wells, existing and proposed.
c) We are cun•ently collecting groundwater data on a monthly basis. We will
continue to collect this data on a monthly basis for the duration of the project,
d) We will submit the monthly monitoring-well data with our annual report to the
DMG.
e) As of the date of this letter, we have collected 4 months of groundwater data.
