01-03-07 % 02:24PI1 FROIA-DMG GRAND JUNCTION FIELD OFFICE 970 241 1516 T-277 P.004/005 F-215
Colorado Division of ILeelanmtion, Mining & Safety
14 Decem6cr 7A06
• 171 ages were permanently reclaimed via re-vegetatiott during the years ] 982-
1984.
+, An additional 110 acres associated with disturbed areas above the Middle Fork
Data and Reservoir and all side slopes on the Dam Access Road were reclaimed.
4 acres in the Switchyard Pill area were re-vegetated in 1989.
The reclamation week has been accomplished in accordalnce with the approved
reelatnati4n plan and also throush application of several advanced efforts and techniques
to improve the success of the vegetarian taking root. These additional efforts included:
• Using select hay mulch from the Upper Colorado Eavitonmeatal Plant Center or
fram Farmers with certified fields to miaimiae the invasion of unwanted species.
• Uae of custom developed seed mixes, including shrubs, forts, and spocial
cultivars, obtained from the L1C13PC.
• Experimentation with varying ate seeding schedule. For example, in Area 19B
forts were seeded in the Stst season, followed by seeding with grasses the
following year to give forts a head start over the faster growing grasses.
• Harvesting shrub seeds and cuttings firm the Colony property far several species
not readuy available commercially, contract%ng with a nursery to gmw seedlings
from the cuttings, and planting thousands of the seedlings.
• Collecting seed from two rare plants (Baraaby's Columbine and sedge fescue)
and re-establishing communities of these plants ou site.
• Inoculating shrub plantings with microrhyzal firagi to enhance sluub survival
when contpetiag with more aggressive plants.
In addition, fixxonMobil proposes to develop, in consuItatioa wilt DBMS, a plea for
further reciatnation at the Colony Project site to be accomplished over the next five years.
Change in Use of Parts of rite Colony Project Permitted Area
It is contemplated that future oil and gas drilliarg activities (for conventional oil and gas
recovery in formatioas~undeslying the oil shale resource) will occur on the Colony Shale
Ot7 Project lattds. These activities may begin as early as 2007. It is expected that the
Colony Project roads will be needed to allow access for these drilling and producing
activities. >`11so, the Colony project roads maybe used to access the southern part of the
Piceance Basin for oil and gas activities.
The approved Colony Project reclamation plea contemplates that some areas of the
Project may be used as toads, long-term water resources, or industria! use rather than
returning the land to agricultural or rangeland oars. With the current oil and gas activity
in the Piccance Basin area, it is evident that the access roads on and off-site are needed
for other industrial uses. The Parachute T~-rmina!/Staging Area is also needed to support
oil and gas activities in the area. E~atonMobit intends to retain the Colorado River water
intake site as a water withdrawal and pumping Pleat for industrial use along with the
Middle Fork Reservoir.
