Finding on the Pub1Ic Land Health Standard for Threatened & Endangered species:
The proposed action will have no effect on the public land health standard for T&E and sensitive
species.
WASTES, HAZARDOUS OR SOLID
Affected Environment: Undeveloped land utilized for livestock forage protection and a
minor amount of recreational use. Little public access.
Environmental ConsegnencesJMitigation:
Proposed Action: The development of a detention pond at this site through
aggregate mining in the area would not result in the use, storage or disposal of hazardous
materials. Industry standard operating principles could effectively mitigate any issues related to
either the appropriate use of regulated materials such as petroleum fuels and fueling or solid
waste, including the generation of trash or human waste. No additional mitigation would be
necessary.
No Action Alternative: none
Cumulative Impacts of the Proposed Action: none.
WATER QUALITY, SURFACE AND GROUND (includes a finding on Standard 5)
Affected Environment: Surface water flow in this area is extremely altered due to
upstream diversions and present land management on surrounding private land. Surface flow is
generally present during the winter season. Ground water is contained mainly in shallow
alluvium. Water quality in this area is generally considered to be good.
Environmental ConsequenceslMidgatlon:
Proposed Action: The Proposed Action would create a gravel pit in what is left of
the stream channel and most surface flows would percolate into the soil and enter the ground
water system. The effects to water quality from this activity would be limited to what enters the
ground water as it percolates into the ground water. The biggest concern would be fuel spills
from the equipment working in the pit entering the ground water. There are many mitigation
measures that would prevent this sort of scenario in the state regulations, and any fuel spill
would likely be very small. This also discussed in the hazardous wastes section. Any changes in
water quality from the Proposed Action would likely be immeasurable.
No Action Alternative: Under the No Action Alternative, there would be no
changes to water quality.
it
