ROCKY MOUNTAI'ri MATERIALS & ASPHALT INC. applied for a 112 Reclamation Permit
for Construction Materials or Hardrock.
a. The permit is a LIFE OF MINE permit with no expiration date;
b. The permit can be revoked only if there is a violation;
c. It is doubtful Rocky Mountain would ever have any violations;
i:herefore, the permit could last forever.
rl1MMFNTC
Granting a LIFE OF MINE permit to Rocky Mountain fora mining operation affects us;
as:
1. We are owners of property adjoining their property, meaning next to or
borders upon; and this operation:
a. would spoil any potentials of enhancement of that area;
b. would ruin the scenic view and affect the value of properties
in that area;
c. would create much NOISE, HEAVY TRUCK TRAFFIC, VISUAL IMPACTS, and
MUCH DUST - creating an unhealthy atmosphere.
d. UPSET any plans the family may have for their property as, although
no one is living on it now, someone living there in the future has not
been ruled out;
e. as owners of their adjoining property, we would, undoubtedly, receive
the brunt of any pollution and toxins released by a gravel mining
operation; and
f. we do not want a mining operation as a neighbor.
Quoting and repeating from my March 28 and April 12 letters:
An article in the New England Journal of Medicine stated in part:
"A study shows that in large cities, every 1 percent increase
in the concentration of a type of pollution known as fine
particulate matter results, on average, on one MORE DEATH PER DAY."
That study referred to large cities; however, pollution is pollution
whether in a large city or a small city. It is not known what type of toxin Rocky
Mountain's mining operation will produce but whatever pollution and toxins it re-
leases, would be hazardous.
GRANTING A LIFE OF MINE type of permit:
a. Is not a one-or-two day operation. The proposed permit would allow an
operation for Life of the Mine which could be in operation for 50 years
and more, releasing whatever TOXINS mining gravel would produce daily;
b. In any mining operation, it's not what you see, but what you don't see
that is of great concern;
c. When the wind blows, pollution affects the entire area as the wind blows
NORTH - SOUTII - CAST and WEST; and would spread pollution all over;
d. All people living in that area would suffer the consequences of pollutions
and toxins that would be released by a mining operation and would adversely
affect the health of all in the surrounding area.
