Bob Oswald
Re: Sunday Mine, Permit M-1977-285
Request for Technical Revision
Filling and reclamation of the portal will be conducted with a small capacity front-end loader
(likely in the 3 cu. yd. range). In addition, a small track mounted dozer, or equivalent, will be
used to push fill material up in the portal to ensure that it remains stable.
As with all disturbed areas occurring on sloping ground; the final graded exterior surface of the
portal plug will not exceed 2:1 slope.
Building Debris and Slabs: The Sunday Mine site includes several metal frame and
wooden buildings. Due to the number of buildings at the Sunday Mine site, burial of all
demolition debris and concrete slabs in the mine portal may not be practical. An alternative at
the Sunday Mine site is to bury debris under the waste dump. This approach is particularly
suitable at the Sunday site as there is a large "high wall" interior to the waste dump (south and
west of the equipment shops at the site of the ore loadouUgrizzly) where burial would be easily
accommodated and would be an integral part of the final grading and sloping of this area in the
yard.
The buildings and facilities located at the Sunday Mine site are as follows:
- Warehouse/Wash Bay and Auxiliary building: 44' x 16' warehouse on concrete slab,
19' x 19' external concrete pad, 14' x 20' auxiliary building on concrete slab; both
buildings are wood frame building construction.
- West Shop: 40' x 40' metal frame building on concrete slab, 36' x 36' external
concrete pad on west side, 12' x 40' external concrete pad along south side of
building; 4' sidewalk along east side.
- Grease Pit: a concrete subgrade grease pit exists between the West Shop and the East
shop; this pit was covered in November 2002.
- East Shop: 41' x 35' shop building on concrete slab, 12' x 26' attached storage area
on concrete slab, 12' x 12' attached storage area on concrete slab, 35' x 13' concrete
pad on west side of building. The building and attachments are wood frame with
metal siding.
- Office and Dry building: 50' x 36' metal frame building on concrete slab, 4' sidewalk
on two sides - --90' linear feet.
- Small Items Warehouse: 28' x 12' building adjacent to Office; wood frame
construction on concrete slab.
- Compressor building: 20' x 16' modular wood frame building on concrete slab; door
was removed to remove compressor.
- Compressor building: 20' x 40' metal frame building on concrete slab.
The floor slabs for all of the buildings and aprons are generally 4 inches thick, although there
may be areas of slightly thicker concrete due to irregularities in the substrate during placement of
concrete. The concrete slabs are reinforced with wire mesh, and occasionally minor amounts of
trash steel were placed in the pour for additional strength.
- An electric power transformer station is located east of the compressor buildings.
Nine transformers are included in a fenced and locked enclosure. Six of the
transformers are tagged with light blue "PCB-free" stickers and belong to the
Operator. Three transformers are not tagged and these are the property of San Miguel
Power.
