6.2 Tailings Disposal Area Fill Material <br />• 6.2.1 Tvoe 1 Material <br />The Contractor shall furnish, transport, and place Type 1 <br />material as set forth in these Specifications, or as specified <br />by the Engineer. <br />Type 1 material will be utilized for the construction <br />of the pervious drainage blanket on the upstream portion of <br />the main starter embankment and for Phase II lifts. Type 1 <br />material shall be placed to the lines and grades specified on <br />the Drawings. Type 1 material shall consist of the inorganic <br />soils (sandy gravels) borrowed from on-site sources as shown <br />on the Drawings. Gradation of this material shall allow a <br />maximum particle size of less than 1-1/2 inches where in direct <br />contact with a synthetic liner and three inches otherwise. The initial <br />dumping shall be confined to an area outside the limits of the <br />lined area. In no instance shall material be directly dumped <br />on the liner. The dumping of material inside the lined area <br />shall be allowed only when sufficient area has been achieved <br />such that damage to the liner will not occur.
