CAMEO GRAVEL
EXH181T D
MINING PLAN
The overall cost of extraction to the public (Road maintenance) and owner (distance to
market) should be minimal.
It is the intent of Western Slope Flagstone to meet the criteria for "Mineral Extraction"
listed by the Mesa County Development Land Use and Development Policy No. 29.
Conditional Use Permits for this expanded operation have been approved by Mesa
County Planning Department -Resolution MCM 2001-99 and MCM 2001-100.
11.) CAMEO GRAVEL MINING SITES:
North Area Mine Plan:
When developed, the North Area will contain the equipment and fuel storage area, stock
piles, erosion confrol dikes, crusher site, scales and sales office. The North Area will not
be developed until sales volume calls for crushing and screening of the raw material.
Fuel storage will consist of 500 gallon above ground storage tanks surrounded by
membrane lined pits for secondary containment. The Division will be notified along with
all other required federal, state and local agencies in the event of a spill of any
"reportable quantity ".
A shorter haul distance to and from the dispersal point of Interstate I-70 makes the North
Area more desirable for large sates volumes. A minimum of 30 foot set-backs from the
property lines and adequate set-backs from the steep bluffs along I-70 will be
maintained.
The mine plan anticipates removal of the construction materials down to the sandstone
cap of the Mesa Verde formation identified in the Geologic report. Top soil and
unmarketable material will be laid back over the disturbed area and re-seeded with the
exception of the 2.0± acre stock pile, storage and sales office areas (See Exhibit C).
The existing haul road between the North Area and I-70 frontage road will be improved
and dust controlled (watered) as needed. Recent construction of the 48 inch Ute Water
pipeline has utilized the haul roads connecting the two areas.
Middle Area Mine Plan:
The Middle Area Excavation Mine Plan calls for removal of the construction materials
within the thirty (30) foot setbacks from the property lines outside utility line easements
down to the depth of the Mesa Verde sandstone cap.
Until crushing begins, the existing gravel pit (Westem Slope Flagstone Quarry No. 2),
located within the Middle Area Mine Plan, will contain the excavation and screening
equipment, stockpiles and scales yard. Fuel will be delivered to equipment at the site as
needed, no fuel storage is proposed.
