4. Post-Reclamation Site Draina¢e
Maps C-2 and F show arrows indicating the approximate direction of drainage throughout the pit.
Almost the entire permit area will drain to the northeast towazds the old Metcalf Pit. This is similar to
the original path that water on the surface follows. A very small portion of the water will drain
towards the southeast corner where the natural berm was removed and the pit is daylighted to
Mexican Gulch and another small portion to the north towards the north end of the George property,
where it will settle into the ground.
5. Weed Control
Haldorson and Sons, Inc. will take measures to ensure that the reclaimed land is free of weed
infestations. Problem weeds will be monitored closely each spring until the bond is released to
determine if they are invading the area. Weed control will be initiated if the problem becomes
serious. Potential noxious weeds in the area identified by Montrose County include: Yellow
Starhistle, Spotted Knapweed, Diffuse Knapweed, Leafy Spurge, Yellow Toadflax, and Jointed
Goatgrass. There are no known infestations at this time. The Division and the NRCS will be
consulted regarding any weed infestation area and any control measures prior to their initiation. It may
be necessary to control weeds by mowing after the first year; the feasibility of chemical weed control
methods will be studied should it be necessary. The plan does not contemplate total weed removal on
the property. Past experience shows that some initial weed cover in the first year following
retopsoiling is beneficial to the reclamation effort in non-irrigated areas such as the slopes. Weeds
tend to provide shade for new grasses, are a means of holding snow on the seedbed longer and protect
it from wind and water erosion until the planted species have taken hold.
6. Revegetation Success Criteria
It is suggested that the dry range revegetation in should be deemed successful when the live perennial
cover is adequate to control erosion and no less than 90% of the pre-mine vegetation in similaz
surrounding areas.
Haldorson Sand and Gravel Mine 24
