JESSE LEE PIT <br />Expansion Application <br />(110 Permit to 112 Permit Conversion) <br />August, 2006 <br />Application Report <br />Page 3 of 3 <br />NaturaUCultural Resources -The reclamation of this land will create a more expansive and <br />useable area than prior to mining. The Division of Wildlife notes the presence of numerous bird <br />and mammal species in the azea currently being reclaimed (See DMG application, Exhibit H). <br />River access will be enhanced, while the chazacter of that corridor will be preserved. <br />Transportation -The taxes paid by commercial vehicles using this pit will benefit Chaffee <br />County. <br />Affordable Housing -The affordability of housing is directly affected by the availability of <br />locally produced construction products. This is an existing gravel pit. Allowing it to continue <br />and expand operations benefits the citizens of Chaffee County by encouraging competitive <br />pricing of needed commodities. <br />Community Facilities -This commercial operation will provide tax revenues to Chaffee County. <br />Economic Development -The applicant, Pelino, Inc. currently employs 26 residents of Chaffee <br />County in earthmoving, road construction and utility construction. When Jesse Lee is fully <br />permitted, 3 to 4 additional personnel are anticipated to run the pit. This locally owned and <br />operated company is utilizing the resources of Chaffee County, both in terms of personnel and <br />materials. <br />5 <br />
