JESSE LEE PIT
Expansion Application
(110 Permit to 112 Permit Conversion)
August, 2006
Application Report
NaturaUCultural Resources -The reclamation of this land will create a more expansive and
useable area than prior to mining. The Division of Wildlife notes the presence of numerous bird
and mammal species in the azea currently being reclaimed (See DMG application, Exhibit H).
River access will be enhanced, while the chazacter of that corridor will be preserved.
Transportation -The taxes paid by commercial vehicles using this pit will benefit Chaffee
County.
Affordable Housing -The affordability of housing is directly affected by the availability of
locally produced construction products. This is an existing gravel pit. Allowing it to continue
and expand operations benefits the citizens of Chaffee County by encouraging competitive
pricing of needed commodities.
Community Facilities -This commercial operation will provide tax revenues to Chaffee County.
Economic Development -The applicant, Pelino, Inc. currently employs 26 residents of Chaffee
County in earthmoving, road construction and utility construction. When Jesse Lee is fully
permitted, 3 to 4 additional personnel are anticipated to run the pit. This locally owned and
operated company is utilizing the resources of Chaffee County, both in terms of personnel and
materials.
5
