Environment; Inc. Page 5
Albert Frei apd`$ons;,lnc..
` Walstrum'Aggregate Quarry
~M.L.R:B'. Permit M-83-035
Alan is"correct S53°E is,the correct number.. When we were on the
-site measuring the angles, we were measuring azimuths and Mr. Revey
.forgot to convert to a bearing.
- July 5 Letter-
. 6. This information is to clarify your highwall list regarding the
proposed mining and how.thE northern slopes will be created. The
1983-plan .as approved allowed for variable bench heights and width
as-you explain. Ths.plan will be used on all face area except
the northern side of the new area where-the 60' by 180' steps will
be cut and backfilled. In reviewing my notes from the Apri1.8,
2'002. inspection I concur with your measurements and description of
.areas measured with the exception of the west wall"areas. I
' believe these walls are part of the south sight berm, actually the
west facing part of the south berm area and not the actual "west
wall". The "west wall" is along the-old access road behind the
concrete-batch plan and scale house. I.used these number in my
bond estimate where they applied.
Concerning the north face area, please refer to Figure D-1
- following the Mining Plan text for the areas Z discuss in the
fol'lowi~ng text.
When mining moves out of"the existing permit area into the new
area Frei will start in the area-shown as FACE. Along the south
side of this area is where .the current north highwall is forming.
_ ~ 'The plan-is to remove the small ridge in this area,-.down to a
level, equal with the current, floor. This will leave a flat area,
approximately 6.40 acres in size, that ends in the bottom of the
drainage the bears northeast from the northwest .corner of the
mined-area, The north side will be the existing slope below the
.east-west"road 'above the mine. The 800 foot long north wall will
have been removed during this process leaving a slope that will
match the upper slope. This slope will be temporarily reclaimed
until it is removed as mining progresses thru the. North Slope
area: ,Mining would then move into the.WEST"LAKE area moving east
to"wesi.then north following the mining direction shown on the
Mining Plan map:
As, mining ends on fhe WEST LAKE area it would move into the NORTH
SLOPE area where"the-large step benches (60' high by 180' wide)
would 'be'oonstructed. These are the benches that-will be
backfilled to create the 3:1"slope along that side of the mine.
' Based on the estimated reserves and projected production increases
it will take another 25-plus year to start".mining on the NORTH
" SLOPE area: This"may or may"not be a time when reclamation is
most expensive-but I believe it is far enough in the future for it
- to be cbsf prohibitive to carry a bond adequate to reclaim under
this scenario. for that length of time.
9. I discussed this with 'Alan and we decided that if i could provide
him with the data concerning blasting and bench creation he could
begin input and would call if he needed more information. TABLE 1
' in the reclamation"cost estimate contains the base information he
needs. Table A is set up the same way.
10.- Since reclamation on the road will be concurrent with construction
the cost will be minimal., Attached are two scenarios for bonding.
~~eii ~-a~ .~'Pa..~:,,,~3r.~~"'m~..~s.~$isa.ax.uaYdze`s~` ''~*,~,~r.. ! .L.
