All issues have
been addressed in the same order which you presented them in your Adequacy Review.
Rule 3.1.6 Water -General Requirements
1. Based on our review of Colorado's Decision Support Systems (CDSS) database
developed by the Colorado Division of Water Resources, the distance to the nearest
ground water well is approximately 900 feet. This well is identified as the Henderson
well and is owned by Western Gravel. The next closest wells are approximately 1400
feet to the southeast and are identified as JLM Well No.l and JLM Wel] No. 2. Both
of these wells appeaz to be on the east side of the Uncompahgre River. Based on the
fact that these wells are greater than '/< mile from the proposed mining operation and
that they are on the opposite side of the Uncompahgre River from proposed mining
operation, dewatering of the pit should have no impact on these wells.
2. Land use within Y< mile of the site consists of irrigated pasture to the northwest, west,
southwest, south, and east. Residential areas aze located to the southeast. To the
north is an industrial azea occupied by the West Montrose Sanitation District water
treatment plant. East of the irrigated fields along the east side of the site and to the
northeast of the site is wildlife habitat. None of these areas should be impacted by the
removal ofsub-irrigation; the irrigated fields aze supplied water via various irrigation
ditches; the residential and industrial azeas aze supplied with city water; and the
wildlife habitat azeas aze adjacent to the Uncompahgre River.
RECEIVED
MAY 0 3 2001
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
