Phase IVb Weekly Summary No. 18 Page 3 003-2203
. Substitution of 100-mil singled-sided textured liner for 100-mil double-sided textured on the upper floor
of the PSSA sump was allowed by the Certifying Engineer, provided the textured side is placed facing
upwazd. The upwazd facing textured surface is needed to provide frictional resistance for the Drain
Cover Fill and Risers.
Poly-flex deployed 100-mil single-sided textured LLDPE geomembrane over an azea of approximately
11,930 square feet in the Phase IVb PSSA sump floor during this reporting period. Geomembrane
panels U-361, U-363, U-368 through U-380, and U-398 through U-400 were deployed, seamed, and
pressure tested by Poly-Flex. Destructive fusion seam sample DFu-114, and extrusion seam samples
DXu-07 through DXu-08 were marked and removed. Destructive fusion and extrusion seam peel and
shear tests of these samples were performed and passed per project specification.
Phase IVc
Ames performed no construction activities in the Phase IVc area during this reporting period.
Field Monitorine and Testine Activities
Golder observed construction activities associated with Phase IV earthworks. All construction
materials and soil materials placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in
accordance with project specifications. Removal of oversized or deleterious material from all fill
azeas was observed. Golder observed SF placement in Phase IV for materials, lift thickness,
moisture content, and compactive effort.
• Golder observed dewatering and re-compaction of LVSCF in the Phase IVb PSSA sump after
rainfall flooded the area. Golder CQA monitors performed four nuclear moisture-density re-tests
(LVSCNb-Olb through LVSCNb-046) on LVSCF within the Phase IVb PSSA sump. The tests
performed met the requirements of the specifications and the nuclear moisture-density results
summary is presented in Attachment B.
Golder visually observed the placement and grading of LVSCF in the Phase IVb PSSA area. Golder
CQA monitors (one monitor per dozer when dozers are greater than 50 ft apart) observed LVSCF
placement and verified minimum thickness of 3 feet.
Golder visually observed the placement of DCF in the Phase IVb PSSA area. Golder CQA monitors
(one monitor per dozer when dozers are greater than 50 ft apart) observed DCF placement and
verified minimum thickness of 2 feet for finish grade, 4 feet for HVSCS primary pipe locations, and
10 feet for haul road construction.
Golder observed anchor trench excavation in the Phase IVb PSSA and OSA for proper location and
dimension (2' wide by 3' deep). Anchor trench excavation met or exceeded the requirements of the
specifications. Golder observed anchor trench backfill in the Phase IVb PSSA for lift thickness and
compaction.
Golder observed and monitored placement of BF in the Phase IVb PSSA for proper location and
• thickness (1' deep). Golder monitored compactive effort and finish grading to verify conditions met
specifications.
Phase IVb lBMay18-htay2i ?OW(q.doc Golder Associates lnc.
