(MKA) has <br />conducted an investigation of structural and cosmetic distress which is <br />affecting your adobe residence in Weston, Colorado. This letter summarizes <br />our findings and preliminary conclusions. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The residence is a traditional adobe structure which was reportedly built in <br />the 1930's. A plan view of the main house is shown in Figure 1. As shown <br />in this sketch, the rectangular-shaped structure has approximate plan <br />dimensions of 30 ft by 65 ft. A portion of the house at the east end is two <br />stories high. <br />While the original construction of the house utilized traditional adobe <br />materials and workmanship, the exterior has since been covered with a <br />cement stucco finish reinforced with wire mesh. <br />A partial basement occurs beneath the western third of the house. The <br />remainder of the structure has been built over a shallow crawl space. <br />t is our understanding that the property was purchased in 1988. In <br />subsequent years, cracking distress and separations between the framing <br />components began to develop in the house.
