Adequacy Letter Reply continued
The hydrologic balance will remain undisturbed. On-site and off-site drainage
patterns, and flow amounts will remain essentially the same as before ruining
commenced. New drainage patterns will not be established and the affected land
areas created by mining will have the same runoff potential (once grass is
established) aspre-mining runoff.
No clay is processed on site. It is mined and stockpiled. Haulage from the
stockpile is by truck and on a demand basis at the plant in Castle rock.
The soil type is identified as Lithic Entosol by the Thorne report. A copy of that
Repor[ originally submitted with the Dawson Mine application and permit is
Included with this report.
3. Exhibit E. -The type of reclamation is to restore the mined azea to rangeland. All
of the surrounding land is rangeland and the owner, The State Land Boazd of
Colorado has previously stated that they want the land restored to rangeland use.
Reclamation will be implemented by backfilling and grading each phase area as
mining is completed. As each phase is completed by mining, reclamation will be
initiated by backfilling and grading immediately while the mining equipment is
still on site. Seeding and tree planting will be done as soon as the season permits
and in no instance longer than one yeaz from the completion of backfilling and
grading.
The entire disturbed azea will be backfilled (ff needed) and graded so as to blend
into the existing topography and be appropriate for rangeland use. More acreage
for rangeland will result from the mining and reclamation as the knobs or hills
that are not suitable for grazing will be flattened making their slopes more
acceptable for grass growth.
Backfilling will only be in localized azeas necessary to keep the reclaimed area in
a flat profile. The backfilled material will be compacted using scrapers and a
dozer.
Topsoil will be stockpiled in a flat azea and will be covered with plastic and the
plastic staked. This method will protect the topsoil stockpile from wind and water
erosion.
TopsoIl replacement on graded slopes is not anticipated, however the topsoil will
be seeded immediately after placement by drilling and mulch distributed as
recommended by the Soils Commission.
