West Ridge: Along the top of the West Ridge reclamation the contour
furrows have functioned effectively - many contain standing water or
recent mud; there is some rill development that needs attention
along the West Ridge reclaimed area.
West Ridge Road at the "Super Curve" area has experienced erosion as
drainage from the ditch on the northwest side of the road between
the super curve and the facilities area flowed down the embankment
on the inside of the curve, cutting large gullies in the reclaimed
roadside and the undisturbed area, and depositing a significant
apron of sediment in the native vegetation at the base of the
embankment.
Center Ridge Pond: Water in the pond is slightly cloudy, but
discharging water appears clear.
Spoils springs are discharging into Center Ridge Pond.
Spoils Spring #1 is also discharging heavy flow. This spring is
actually a cluster of springs with flow that is not concentrated.
There is no water coming through the head gate on the irrigation
ditch near Spoils Spring #1.
The drainage ditch into West Ridge Pond is stable and heavily
vegetated.
Moffat Area: New springs have appeared at the upper end of the
pond, creating a wet, marshy area on the bench above the pond.
Significant erosion has occurred on the west-facing slope between
the reclaimed lower haul road and Moffat Pond. Several large,
gullies extend from the reclaimed area into the undisturbed area
downslope. The gullied area is -200' long with gullies up to 3'
deep (see enforcement actions - NOV C-97-007)
Spoils springs 16/17 were flowing at -40 gpm. The channel carrying
the spring discharge is silty and braided. If possible, the
operator should rock the channel and define it.
Several gullies descend from the Moffat reclamation adjacent to the
East Ridge spoil pile south of the springs 16/17. Gullies there are
up to 24" deep (see enforcement actions - NOV C-97-007.)
The diversion ditch upslope and east of spoils springs 16/17 is
downcutting; some rills emanate from the slope above that ditch to
the east.
