Battle Mountain
NOPV Abatement
page 4
Gold
Requirements
to ensure continuous penetration of the ground water table. Farther, the
Division believes that all tailings area monitoring facilities should be
sampled monthly and the analytical results reported expedition ly to the
Division. This evaluation report shall be submitted to the Di ision as a
technical revision prior to May 29, 1992.
Further, BMG shall develop and submit a tailings effluent leak ge
interception, containment and treatment plan, to be implemente in the
event of contaminant migration from the tailings area. This c ntingency
response plan should specify methods to remedy contamination o ground
water, surface water and soil. This plan shall be submitted t the
Division as a technical revision prior to June 15, 1992.
Status: Satisfied - 8MG has committed to development of remed~ai plan
in letter of April 16, 1992.
- The requirements for monitoring plan modi ication
were only advanced by the Division on Apr 1 21, 1992.
- BMG verba.ily committed to modify the moni oring plan
on April 22, 1992.
Mav Progress: - BMG has met with the Division on May 21, 992 to
discuss preliminary concepts to be includ d in its
revs round water monitoring plan, to a submitted
by May 29, 1992. Copies of this revision
app z n will provided to the Parties or comment.
<7> Modification of Ore Processing Methodology:
BMG's preliminary suspicions of altered metallic ore content, nd the
coincidental failure of the designed processing cyanide recove y circuit,
are indications that the ore processing methodology currently eing
applied by BMG may require significant modification. If BMG d termines
it necessary to modify its ore processing methodology, BMG sha 1 submit
appropriate applications to the Division. Appropriate permit
modifications, supported by comprehensive analytical results a d design
evaluations, shall be submitted by BMG to the Division for rev~ew and
approval no later than 45 days following completion of the cya ide
detoxification of the tailings areas contents, described in it~m (4)
above.
Status: Satisfied - BMG has committed to the completion of th requested
investigations, the development of an app opriate
detoxification procedure, and the submiss on of a
summary report in a letter of April 16, 1 92.
(8) Modification of Tailings Area Reclamation Plan:
The Division is concerned that the introduction of cyanide into the
tailings area may be indicative of the inclusion of associatedlmetallic
contaminants not originally anticipated in its approved operations and
