The samples were <br /> rinsed with a solution consisting of deionized water~lwith the pH <br /> adjusted to 5.0-5.5. The rinsing was performed by mixing <br /> approximately a 12 to 1 liquid to solid ratio in ~ zero head <br /> space container and allowing the solution to ,equilibrate <br /> overnight. The liquid was then decanted and analyzed for pH and <br /> conductivity. This rin sing procedure was continued yntil the pH <br /> of the leachates had either turned acidic or sta ilized for <br /> three rinsing cycles.
