Conversion
Rev1 on -0Oj, ermit# -1998-05~
Dear Mr. Soren//son_
The foNowing are our responses to the items listed in your Adequacy
of Application Letter of May 26, 2004:
1. Sofl And Planting
You agree that the law and the regulations both require that affected
land be revegetated to a vegetative cover equal to or greater Then the
exLating vegetative cover at the site. Since a exictirir~ ve0etatwe cover at
the site Is esserthalty zero, Everist Materials is not regwred to revegeta~ the
site.
However, we do a9rea that some vegetation on the site would help
to reclaim many environmental and aesthetic aspects of the site, indud'mg
some of the v(sual, wildlife, air, and water quality concerns related to
harvesting this material.
You nays suggr>StP.d tt-at wp cnmmit tp irnrestigate and repot fa
DMG on the potential to incorporate cost effective soil amendments udo Uie
reclamation of the affected land -namely saving the screen and gusher fines
and amending same wdtt horse manure and hay or slaw to build a soil ko aid
revegetation o1 the site.
We do wish to revegetate the site, but we do not wish to do rese.~roh
on revegetadng amended fines and do not wish to report to you about the
progress of the research. Therefore, as discussed, we will srgnficanily
improve upon your suggestion and commft to placing an average of 1-cttx~t of
soil to the site to akf the revrsgetation rsffnrt. That amount of soil will provide
far better vegetation than fines arr~nded with horse n-erwre and straw or hay.
Also as discussed with you, we do not expect to beheld to any
rev~etation standards at this site (because Ihhe law requires no revegetation
of this site),
