, Dr. James Pendleton • •
August 14, 1992
-* Page 2
Task 1. Pre-Samolino Activities
Prior to initiation of the first sampling event, the sampling and ana ysis protocol
document developed by Battle Mountain Gold and approved by th~ Mined Land
Reclamation Division will be reviewed. The purpose of the review will be to familiarize
WWL personnel with the established protocols for ground and surface I~vvater sample
collection and handling. A checklist will be developed to facilitate ahd document
oversight of all sampling activities.
In addition, it is anticipated that guidelines for collection of third party split samples
will be developed by the Mined Land Reclamation Division and Battle M untain Gold.
The intent of the guidelines will be to specify the mechanics of obtai ing the third
party water quality samples, as opposed to defining or modifying establi hed sampling
and quality control procedures. Basically, it is expected that the guidelin swill outline
procedures to ensure, to the extent possible, that the split samples are r presentative
of the primary samples, and will specify the third party quality control amples to be
collected. Time has been included in this task for WWL personnel tolassist in the
development and review of the third party guidelines.
Project Manager 2 hours @ S70 ~iS140
Project Engineer 8 hours @ S55 660
Subtotal 5800
Task 2. Samolina Activities
As directed by the Mined Land Reclamation Division, a WWL individual wi I accompany
personnel of Battle Mountain Gold or their contractors during water sam le collection
activities at approximately four surface water sampling sites and seve monitoring
wells located at the Battle Mountain Gold San Luis Project. Four of th monitoring
wells are typically dry. The four surface water sample sites consist f the upper
impoundment area, the lower impoundment area, the collection pond fee er ditch, and
Rito Seco creek. It is anticipated that the frequency of the oversight sa piing events
will include: three events in the first quarter, two events in the secon quarter and
two events in the second half of the year. The Mined Land Reclama ion Division
representative will coordinate the sampling schedule with WWL and will notify Battle
Mountain Gold of the intended third party sampling event.
All sampling activities, including equipment decontamination, sample c Ilection and
sample preparation, will be observed and documented. If sampling activities or
procedures conflict with established protocols developed specifically for this project,
those activities will be documented in the field book, and will be discusse and, to the
extent possible, resolved in the field with the sampling personnel at th time of the
sampling. The affect on the integrity of the sample as a result of the co flict will be
evaluated and documented in the field book. The steps or procedure required to
rectify the conflict will also be documented in the field book. If the con ict with the
established sampling procedures can not be resolved in the field, then th Mined Land
Reclamation Division representative will be notified.
Split water quality samples will be collected at each sampling sit following
documented protocols, at the Battle Mountain Gold San Luis site during ea h oversight
sampling event. WWL will coordinate the events with the laboratory to b selected by
