This change involves the remedial action to a disturhance
identified as Area #3 on the exhibits.
Without reciting all of the past history or details, it has been determined
by the Operator's Contractor and confirmed by their Geotechnlcal Consultant,
CTL-Thompson, that the regrading of the entire Area #3 to a 2:1 slope ins not
practical. It is probably not even possible without causing further damage to
the slope or existing vegetation.
Our survey crew has revisited the site, conducted more detailed cross
section work, and has taken six lateral cross sections (perpendicular to the
original cross section line) on the upper portion of Area #3. The results of
this additional field investigation have been condensed into a 2' interval
contour map from the crest down to approximately station 1+70. The
topography is shown as dashed existing contours on the attached Exhibit A.
The reshaping of Area #3 is proposed to be accomplished by removing as
much material as is practical from the crest down to and including a portion
of the "bulge" near midslope. The appearance of the "bulge" has been created
by a series of grade breaks between the crest and midpoint.
The regrading of the upper portion oP Area #3 will result in a 2.1:7. net
slope as measured along the original cross section line and will vary to match
the existing undisturbed natural slopes at each edge of Area #3. The lower
portion of Area #3 will remain in its current condition resulting in an overall
net slope from top to toe of Area #3 as measured along the cross section line
of 1.7:1. This is only slightly steeper than the original natural slope (pre-road
construction) of 1.8:1 which was determined by extension of the cross section
Into undisturbed areas above and below Area #3.
