DIVISION OF MINERALS & GEOLOGY BOARD PERMIT AMENDMENT APPLICATION <br />REGULAR OPERATION (112) <br />PERMIT # M-1992-066 <br />HOGUE RIVER PIT <br />EXHIBIT D Mining Plau <br />A second pump is located on the north east corner of the mining area. This pump <br />pulls water from a trench which runs from east to west in the mining area floor. <br />Water which reaches this pump comes from the in situ dewatering done on the <br />gravel reserves. <br />Water is discharged into the Hogue Ranch irrigation system or into the Duquette <br />Ditch, which then flows into the Yampa River. Colorado Wastewater Discharge <br />Permit number COG-500243. <br />A third pump located in the south west corner of the mining area is used in <br />conjunction with the gravel itself for dewatering. Dewatering prior to mining will <br />lower the water table in the mining area and also dewater the gravel in its <br />undisturbed natural state. By minimizing disturbance of the gravel prior to <br />dewatering we will be pumping clean water. By dewatering in situ, we will <br />utilize the natural seams in the gravel to dewater itself. <br />Utilization of this method of dewatering will also benefit the crushing and <br />screening operations. Materials will not have to be stockpiled and allowed to <br />drain prior to processing. This will substantially reduce mud and silt <br />accumulations that would result from stockpiling water laden materials. Because <br />the gravel seams will be virtually undisturbed, excavation operations will benefit. <br />Gravels can be separated more efficiently during the excavation process, resulting <br />in more efftcient crushing and screening operations. <br />The settling pond has been placed on the south side of the mining area, between <br />the river and the excavation area, we anticipate intercepting the biggest source of <br />water (from the river) by the sump interceptor trench method to minimized water <br />accumulation in the pit excavation area. <br />When overburden is encountered, the material will be removed by scrapers and <br />dozers if ground conditions permit. If wet conditions or wetland areas are <br />encountered, the material will be separated and excavated with a excavator and <br />loaded on haul units. Where operations permit, the overburden will be used as <br />backfill in previously mined areas. Minimal overburden has been encountered at <br />this time. Therefore, we do not anticipate handling problems associated with the <br />
