DIVISION OF MINERALS & GEOLOGY BOARD PERMIT AMENDMENT APPLICATION
REGULAR OPERATION (112)
PERMIT # M-1992-066
HOGUE RIVER PIT
EXHIBIT D Mining Plan
the Soil Conservation Service. At the completion of mining these topsoil berms
will be leveled at the request of the owner and incorporated into the final
reclamation of the pond shorelines.
Overburden stripping is minimal. Any material unsuitable for topsoil is hauled to
previously mined areas and utilized in the backfill/reclamation operation.
The thickness of the gravel deposits vary from approximately 21 feet on the south
side of the project to approximately 47 feet on the north side of the project. On
the southwest corner of the mining area (Phase III) the gravel vein has started to
decrease and the depth of the shale is rising. It is anticipated that the gravel vein
in this area will continue to decrease to the point that mining will benon-
profitable. If this is the case this area will not be mined. As mining has
progressed, we have found the gravel in the 13 acres (Phase V) is deeper than
originally thought and is well worth mining.
4. Bedrock lays directly underneath the existing gravel reserves. Gravels are
removed to bedrock.
5. Access to the site is at milepost 126.2 (approximately) on U.S. Highway 40.
Interior accesses are as described in the mining plan maps.
6. Due to the low lying nature of the area and close proximity to the Yampa River,
the water table is from three to six feet from the existing ground elevation.
C. General Mining Methods and Operations
Approximately 12 to 24" of topsoil exists in the project area. Approximately 12"
of topsoil is being stripped from the mining areas and stockpiled..
Due to the high water table in this area, dewatering is required 24 hours per day
for efficient mining operations and procedures. A trench and sump station
(electric submersible pump) is in use on the eastern boundary of the mining area.
Water from this pump station is used in the wash plant. The water is then directed
to a settlement pond and recycled back to the pump for reuse.
