Ms. Erica Crosby, En_v._Protection Specialist _ _
1313 Sherman Street Room 210
Denver, CO 80203
RE: LILLY MINES M-1987-028 REQUEST FOR EXTENSION TO SUBMIT
CONVERSION APPLICATION.
Deaz Ms. Crosby,
Please be advised that Colorado Marble, Inc, owner and permit holder of the Lilly Mines
operation in Chaffee County, Colorado, is hereby requesting an extension of 90 days for
purposes of developing a comprehensive and complete application package for
conversion of the current 110 type reclamation permit to a 112 type reclamation permit.
Colorado Mazble, Inc, is well awaze of the several issues regarding affected land
boundaries and environmental impacts as noted by DMG inspectors last fall. These items
will be considered as priority concerns to be addressed as eazly in the 2005 mining season
as possible. Colorado Mazble, Inc., has contracted with Colorado Quarries of Canon
City, CO, establish road access to the site as early as practical given snow conditions at
the site. As you know, this is high altitude site with limited access due to snow
accumulation through several months per year, which restricts access to the mine site
from late October through (normally) May. Since the time of the fall inspection, access
to the mine site has not been available. This year, heavy winter snowfall in the general
azea will result access to the site by late May to eazly June. Colorado Marble will make
all efforts to get to the site as eazly as possible to:
1) Assess and respond to the site conditions regazding sedimentation and erosion
control systems that might be employed to control sedimentation from leaving the
affected land boundaries of the site. Construction will be initiated as a first
priority in the 2005 field season to insure that environmental controls aze designed
and installed to eliminate or minimize off-site impacts due to sedimentation or
erosion due to snowmelt run-off from the mining site.
2) Topsoil storage piles on site will be chazacterized for volume, location, and
common soil chazacteristics to devise a strategy for handling, storage, and
