The purpose of this request
is:
1. To provide 10D-year flood protection for possible extraction
of sand and gravel reserves located west of the proposed project
2. To control the flow of the 100-,veer flood and to minimize
any impact to the flood discharge
The request will effect the floodplain of South Boulder Creek; however
the applicant is not requesting the modification of the floodplain nor
the delineation of the flood regulatory area into storage and floodway
areas. The Public Works Department has noted the the present floodplain
designation will .not be amended until such time as the Corps of Engineers
flood study for south Boulder Creek has been completed.
In addition Public Works has noted that proposed dike does not appear
to be a necessary fl000plain modification to allow the contemplated use.
The planning staff agrees that the dike is not a regiment for a gravel
mining operation. If it is contemplated that the lend wilt be developed
for other uses, it Should be understood that the County is not approving
the dike as a means of removing the property from the South Boulder
Creak floodplain.
The City of Boulder bat noted they have no conflict with the proposal
provided that the additional waters to be carried on the City Open Space
property will not cause substantiel damage.
