Acreages Disturbed and Reclaimed
Within the 7,402 acres of proposed permit area, approximately 1,887 acres have
been disturbed. Another 1,923 acres (for a total of 3,810 acres) are proposed
for disturbance over the next 25 years.
According to the 1991 Colowyo Annual Reclamation Report, the following
acreages have been backfilled, graded and partially revegetated:
Acreage
Year Backfiiled and Graded
1978 11.0
1979 7.5
1980 5.2
1981 0.0
1982 21.0
1983 21.0
1984 22.0
1985 88.0
1986 50.0
1987 50.0
1988 46.0
1989 50.0
1990 30.0
1991 102.1
Total Acreage
Backfilled and Graded
11.0
18.5
23.7
23.7
44.7
65.7
87.7
175.7
225.7
275.7
321.7
371.7
401.7
503.8
Phase I and Phase II bond releases for portions of Streeter F111 were applied
for and granted (in 1987) for 176 and 50 acres, respectively.
Roads, Ponds and Support Facilities
Mine facilities within the proposed permit boundaries include: a shop/
maintenance area, a loadout, and an administration building, as well as
associated roads and sediment control structures.
To support the proposed post-mining land use, small water impoundments (stock
tanks) will be constructed to encourage an even distribution of grazing over
the reclaimed site and to enhance the areas for wildlife. These ponds will
also replace the existing water rights associated with the stock ponds that
currently exist on the site. Prior to construction, Colowyo will submit the
necessary designs for these ponds to the Division.
To provide access in the area for ranching purposes, the haul road from
Highway i3 will be left in place after mining is complete. The haul road will
be narrowed from 26 to 12 feet, the asphalt removed, sideslopes reduced to 4:1
and the sides revegetated. in addition, a number of "ranch roads" will be
provided on the reclaimed area to approximate the roads that were in the area
before mining.
All other facilities will be removed at close of mining to provide for the
approved land use. Drilled holes and underground openings will be closed when
discovered or no longer needed for approved mine operation.
-9-
