QQ `OZ Re: Amendment to Permit M-81 -302 (Deepe Farm Pit) Dear Mr. Squire: I am writing to you on behalf of my clients, Western Mobile, Inc. (WMI), to request an amendment to the above-mentioned permit, also known as the Deepe Farm Pit. Since 1989 the Deepe Farm sand and gravel site has been operated by WMI. The area has been a significant source of sand and gravel for the Boulder Valley over the past forty-plus years. The first mining activities began in the early 1950s when sand and gravel were excavated in order to build the Denver-Boulder turnpike. Over the past forty years the Deepe Farm and adjoining land to the west have been mined on and off by a number of different Boulder companies. The current "Deepe Farm" project was begun in 1982 by Flatiron Sand and Gravel Company. In 1982 the Boulder County Commissioners gave authority to Flatiron to mine and process sand and gravel from 168 acres of Deepe farm. In 1989 Flatiron transferred the Deepe Farm mining operation to WMI while retaining ownership of the Deepe Farm acreage. During the past seven years, WMI has mined and reclaimed the site according to the terms and conditions of the special use review originally granted to Flatiron by the Boulder County Commissioners in 1982 and again reviewed in 1988-89. Recently, the ownership of the property changed. As a result the new owners wish to modify the finished contours and on-site drainage of the Deepe Farm Pit. The most significant feature of this revised Reclamation Plan is the reduction in the total number of acres of exposed water. The current Reclamation Plan calls for five lakes with a total of 38.1 acres of exposed water. The revised Reclamation Plan contains two lakes with a total of 4.2 acres of exposed water, which is a reduction of 33.9 acres of exposed water. The proposed revisions to the Deepe Farm Pit are part of an overall grading and drainage plan that covers the following areas of the site. 1 .
