D.6.7.5 Phase II Operations
•
At the end of Phase I operation, the Phase I distribution
system will be progressively dismantled and moved to the 8,620
bench. The Phase II system will extend around the entire
perimeter of the 8,620 bench. Prior to placement of the final
Phase II raise on the main embankment, a branch will extend
to the top of the first raise at an elevation of 8,605 ft. This
segment will subsequently be relocated to final embankment
raise.
Tailings will be deposited from spigots located every
100 ft around the perimeter of the embankment. Deposition will
be carried out from selective locations in order to maintain
the free water pool at the base of the Phase II water reclaim
ramp. Selective disposal will also be used to establish the
topographic surface expression required for reclamation of the
disposal area. The Phase II pipeline distributian is shown on
Figure C-12.
D.6.7.6 Monitorina
D.6.7.6.1 General
An active monitoring and observation pragram will be
conducted to confirm that the performance of the tailings
facilities are satisfactory and that the tailings disposal is
occurring in accordance with the design. The program will
monitor groundwater quality and elevation, the quantity and
quality of surface water, settlement of the embankment, free
water pool volumes, and deposited tailings densities. Daily
visual observations of the tailings disposal area and
appurtenant facilities will be conducted by the operating
personnel. Significant observations and operat~~ons criteria
will be recorded on a daily basis.

D-57
