Area C as a result of eliminating the previously approved Area A, but the
designs for both remain the same. The East Pit Disposal Area also remains
unchanged. Area B has been renamed Area A and has been downsiaed. The South
Waste Rock/Tailings Disposal Area has also been redesigned to contain only
waste rock and to accommodate the location of the constructed mill haul
road. A sixth area designated as Area D has been added south of the Rito
Seco between the mine haul road and the eastern permit boundary. See Figure
C-1 for the location of all waste rock disposal areas. The waste rock
disposal area design changes are discussed in Section D.3 of this
amendment.
The mined ore will be hauled to the mill and will be stockpiled for
sorting and beneficiation in the mill. The mill facility will consist of
a crushing and grinding circuit, a cyanidation circuit, a gold recovery
circuit and a tailings treatment circuit. Milling operations are discussed
in detail in Section D.5.
The milling process produces tailings, consisting of )'finely-ground
• rock (80 percent minus No. 150 U.S. sieve size) and residual process water.
Under the proposed mining schedule, about 12.2 million ton# of tailings
will be produced. The tailings will be passed through a treatment circuit
in the mill prior to disposal. The treated mill tailings }ill be piped
from the mill in slurry form (approximately 50 percent solids for disposal
in alined tailings disposal site located southwest of the mill in the same
general area as the currently approved heap leach. The tailings facility
has been designed to provide storage capacity for the total tailings
produced using the managed thin layer deposition technique. The tailings
disposal facility and its operation are described in more detail in Section
D.6.
Reclamation plans for the project facilities will remain essentially
the same as previously approved. Waste rock disposal area reclamation is
unchanged and is discussed in Section E.3 of the original permit. Tailings
reclamation is discussed in Section E.2 of this amendment.
i
Pre-existing facilities such as the old heap and the test heap will
2
