Golden Eaale Mine, oe. 2
This same saturation area was described by Mr. Gerity as only a small damp area during his 1997
investigations here, and apparently recently it has exhibited more water and spring-like flow
characteristics. Ms. Tatum wrote a letter dated September 7, 2000, to DMG objecting to a
proposed bond release at the Golden Eagle Mine and describing this potential water line break.
Ms. Tatum indicated during the inspection she had not contacted the City of Trinidad. I
recommend the Tatum's contact the City of Trinidad as soon as possible.
After our general discussion I recommended we begin photographing any areas of concern on the
outside of the home, and then finish by photographing concerns identified inside. Following aze
general descriptions of the sequence of areas photographed, and general observations in those
specific areas. I will label each photo with specific descriptions from my notes, and provide
copies of the photos to Ms. Tatum and Basin Resources, Inc.
We began at the south facing exterior wall where I took two photos showing cracks in the stucco
around bathroom window and general photo of the courtyard entrance arch and south face of the
house. The second story of the south side was heavily repaired both inside and out down to the
adobe brick and then stuccoed. East side exterior wall I took two photos showing surface cracks
in the stucco; north and northeast facing exterior walls I took two photos showing stucco crack
adjacent to outside of kiva fireplace curve where it meets the wall, and on the kiva curve; one
photo of the southeast facing comer of courtyard wall, a crack in stucco where it meets the
driveway; six photos of the west facing exterior house wall and garage wall showing cracks in
stucco on garage and home, and two new cracks (as identified above, new cracks, not being
evident prior to the 1996 & 1997 repairs) one on the garage wall, and one on the south facing end
of the portico wall where it meets the garage wall; two photos of the water saturated surface in
the pasture; one photo from west subsidence monitoring station at railroad grade to the home;
one photo of a land slump adjacent to railroad grade; and one general photo of the west face of
the home. This concluded the outside evaluation.
We began photographing inside in the kitchen where I took three photos of stucco cracks in the
walls and around the kitchen window and cabinet. Two of these areas were new cracks (as
described above) around the kitchen window and at the cabinet; one photo of a bump in the
dining room floor which has gotten worse over time and stucco swelling /cracking in dining
room neaz ceiling on west wall; two photos in south bathroom of stucco cracks around window;
three photos of stucco cracks in downstairs south bedroom; one photo in office of cracking /
peeling latex paint wall finish; three photos in rock / kiva room showing cracking stucco near
ceiling viga at entry to living room and around window frame on the east wall; four photos in the
TV room showing displacement between ceiling viga and finished east wall, between flooring
and east wall, and cracks around window on east wall; one photo upstairs master bedroom of
displacement at ceiling viga; and two photos of wood ceiling in west downstairs bedroom which
has worsened since repair. This concluded the photographing inside.
