Natdral r~;oacr; <br />Denver, Colorado 80203 <br />Re: Your File C-006-BO-NOV No. C-84-112/Abatement <br />Dear Ms. Thompson: <br />Pursuant to the "Extension of Time for Abatement for Coal <br />Operation" which you issued on July 17, 1984 regarding NOV <br />No. C-84-112, Kerr Coal hereby submits the required information for <br />steps 1 through 3 which are to be achieved by August 1, 1984. <br />1. Construct a diversion ditch to carry runoff from the <br />south aide of the overburden stockpile directly to <br />Pond A. <br />A ditch was constructed, as requested, on July 10, 1984 <br />and was examined by Mr. Michael Savage and Mr. Roy Cox <br />of MLRD during their July 18, 1984 inspection of the <br />mine. <br />2. Replace rubble material at the toe of the south side of <br />the pile on the overburden stockpile. <br />The rubble material in question was cleaned up and <br />replaced on the overburden stockpile on July 10, 1984. <br />The results of this cleanup were examined by Mr. Michael <br />Savage and Mr. Roy Cox of MLRD during their July 18, 1984 <br />inspection of the mine. <br />3. Sample the deposited material in the previously undis- <br />turbed area for suitability as a plant growth medium and <br />submit the results to the Division. <br />On July 3, 1984, six soil/sediment samples were taken in <br />and around the area in question in order to obtain soil <br />suitability data for the three types of soil material <br />existing in the immediate vicinity of the violation: <br />1. Sediment material (Samples 1 and 2), 2. Topsoil <br />immediately below deposited sediment (Samples lA and 2A - <br />Please note these samples came from directly below <br />
