storage, under the further assumption that appropriate specific yield
factors were input.
V. SINIOI,ATIONS
Following the establishment of the steady-state calibrated heads, the next step was
to begin the actual predictive simulations for the two mining phases
For each of the two mining phases, as per generalized mining plans provided by
Aggregate Industries, the area to be mined was overlain on the model grid and the
cells selected that would be dewatered under that mining phase. Around the
perimeter of these areas was placed simulated drains that would dewater the area
central to the perimeter drains. The drains were set just above the local bedrock
elevation to facilitate essentially complete dewatering of the interior area without
resulting in "No Flow" cells. The model, set to run in a steady-state
configuration, was then run and the output generated as a contour map of
drawdown. For each simulation, the drawdown contours were set to 2.0-feet.
As noted above, the simulation of the south mined area also included the north
area as dry. This is considered to be a conservative aspect of the model in that the
north area, once mined, will- be expected to flood, forming a lake that in reality
would attenuate the drawdowns from successive phases; the extent of such
attenuation would depend on the distance from the lake to the current mined area,
as well as their true respective geometries.
11
Martin and Wood Water Consultants, Inc.
